When I
was a child, my family would often join my uncle and his
family on picnic outings to little islands that dot the
Atlantic coastline near where I grew up. His boat, a powerful
and rugged "cape islander", was one of hundreds
in these coastal waters. Famed for their sturdiness, maneuverability,
and stability in all kinds of weather, cape islanders are
still favoured by local fishers. This painting was inspired
by these boats and their amazing captains and crews, who
ride the waves in search of some of the tastiest treats
the North Atlantic has to offer. Private Collection.
